Aaron Mooy has been using his international break away from Celtic to learn from legendary manager Guus Hiddink.

The Dutchman is working as Socceroos boss Graham Arnold's right-hand man for their friendlies against New Zealand before domestic action kicks off again. He famously guided Australia past the group stage at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

He has had a glittering managerial career including stints at Chelsea and Real Madrid, with Mooy the latest beneficiary of his wisdom. A clip uploaded to the Australian national team shows Hiddink clearly outlining instructions to the Celtic midfielder, who is hoping to be involved with Arnold's men at the Qatar World Cup later this year. Hiddink is filling the void for usual number two Rene Meulensteen ,who is in Europe to scout their winter opposition.

The Aussie boss told The Daily Mail that the former manager's presence will be a huge boost to the Celtic star and his teammates: "There was only half-a-dozen players who walked in this morning for breakfast, and the look on their faces straightaway said enough,' he said.

"Those kids, who are our players now, were probably five, six to 10 years of age in 2006, and they all idolised him. The most important thing is that the mentality of the players is right, they don't see it as a party.

"Guus will drive some strong messages to the players, about what he's achieved, and what it takes to achieve success at a World Cup."

Bilyaletdinov signed a four-year contract with English club Everton in August 2009 for an undisclosed fee – believed to be 9 million – upon recommendation from national team manager Guus Hiddink, who was at Chelsea at that time. The move made him Everton's third most expensive signing in their history.

During his coaching career in South Korea, Park Hang-seo had achieved major success. In the 2002 FIFA World Cup, he was the assistant of Guus Hiddink, manager of South Korea in the 2002 FIFA World Cup tournament. He also helped his football teams achieve great results in the K-League Challenge some years later.Jun 19, 2021
